Art Literacy and Appreciation Workshop|Art is Transformation

Solar torch, superweapon…

Quirky combo that transforms boring things into boundless possibilities.

In the eyes of Heidegger, the sun you see signifies a life cycle. In the eyes of Neo in “The Matrix”, the internet is perhaps just a bunch of numbers.

Why would we attempt to visualise the unseeable, and vocalise the inaudible with media arts? It’s all about transformation? Does transformation refer to the media itself or its context? How artists be able to see the unseen?

In this workshop, artist Keith Lam will reveal the transformative and cross-boundary nature of media arts, and how the mediums interchange between works, as participants learn to dissect what they see with a discerning eye like Neo.

Artist Talk | The Vast World of Ceramics - From Practical, Ornamental to its Artistic Nature

Most of us know the practicality of ceramics, as it is often found in tableware. Many also appreciate ceramics, as an ornament that polishes our homes and jazz up our lives. Comparatively, the artistic nature of ceramics is less addressed. Yet, a group of art practitioners is exploring the contemporaneity and possibilities of ceramics. Like other art mediums, ceramics can create inspiring, thought-provoking works, which embody artists' explorations on various topics, from the material itself to social and personal experiences.

In this talk, ceramicist and art educator Rachel Cheung will show you the many facets of ceramics, and share how the development of ceramics inspires her creations.

Artist Talk | ARTitecture - The Multi-layered Relationship between Art & Architecture

Art or structure, form or function comes first in architecture? Walk inside a large-scale sculpture, do we call it a work of art or architecture? Architect or artist coming from different positions may have different interpretation towards these issues. The relationship between architecture and art has always been complex. Since ancient Rome, architecture embraces systematic aesthetics, which has been deconstructed in the postmodern era. Is there still a need for aesthetics in modern architecture? And how do we define art and architecture now?

This dialogue between architecture professor and architect/artist will delve into the multi-layered relationship between architecture and art from ancient to modern and East to West.

Art Literacy and Appreciation Workshop|Art is Broken Glass on the Floor

Art is a fragment of the world, framed in a certain form in a boundless time and space, into fragments of different sizes and shapes, and preserved, with its own ephemerality and fragmentation to fight the so-called eternity and integrity pursued by the world. As an exquisite art form, poetry is like a small piece of glass falling from the inner wall of the universe, and steadily falling into the palm of the artist.

He graduated from the Chinese Department of Lingnan University, and a master's degree in Chinese Language and Literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
