Art Literacy and Appreciation Workshop|Art is a Game

Game night: How to thrive in the Art World?

How does the art world operate? What makes a "successful" artist?

Join us at the game night and have fun with the board game, "Surviving the Art World". Going through the paths of local artists: sharing a studio with friends, participating in an exhibition, finding a part-time job, applying for funding, and updating your IG posts, you are required to manage yourself as well as your art projects while collecting creative works and energy points to survive the art world.

This board game invites you to travel across the local art ecology and think about how to work with the private and public sectors. How would you make professional choices without compromises?

Art Literacy and Appreciation Workshop|Art is Macramé

Macramé comes from a 13th-century Arabic weavers’ word, migramah, meaning “fringe”. This refers to the decorative fringes of tapestry on camels and horses that help to keep insects off the animals. Aesthetically pleasing yet functional, it is also a way to secure the ends of excess thread and yarn along the top and bottom edges of loomed fabrics. After the Moorish Conquest, the art of macramé spread throughout Europe where it was widely applied in household products and handicrafts. "Art is Macramé" workshop allows the participants to create unique pieces of heart-shaped coaster with just their bare hands and strings of rope, which is a perfect match to your cup, candle holder and accessories.

【Season Eight】 Jockey Club Contemporary Art and Literacy Programme Docent Training Workshop

In this era where “everyone is an artist”, we believe that contemporary art is open to interpretation, and everyone can share with others their own ways of seeing. With proper guidance and training, “everyone can be a docent”.

With the purpose of widening the audience base and further enriching contemporary art development in Hong Kong, the Programme aims at equipping docents with the ability to not just show people around and provide context, but also being able to share their unique narration that would spark new ideas and insights.

 ⚛︎ Docent Training Workshop ⚛︎

The Programme welcomes the general public who are interested in contemporary arts and docents. Participants are not required to have any knowledge of art. Those who are interested in understanding and learning how to narrate art are welcome to apply.

A series of nine lessons and activities of various disciplines will increase docents' observation, interpretation, and appreciation abilities towards contemporary art, as well as communication and docent skills. After training, we expect our docents will be able to utilize the knowledge they've absorbed. Under the guidance and assistance of tutors and project executives, docents will have to at least complete one guided tour in the next seson.

Format: Face to Face (Venue T.B.C.)

Language: Cantonese

Admission quota: 30 people
