Artist Talk | The Vast World of Ceramics - From Practical, Ornamental to its Artistic Nature
社會上較多人知道陶瓷實用性的層面,生活上常使用陶瓷器皿為餐具,也有很多人欣賞陶瓷的觀賞性質,將它作為擺設,潤色生活;相比之下,陶瓷的藝術性質較為少人談論或關注;然而,藝術界別?有一群人正在努力尋找陶瓷藝術的當代性和實踐其發展的可能性。陶瓷作為一種藝術媒介,與其他媒介一樣能創造出感動人心、讓人反思的創作,藝術家以其探討所關注的議題,無論是社會上、個人或物料上的探索。
In this talk, ceramicist and art educator Rachel Cheung will show you the many facets of ceramics, and share how the development of ceramics inspires her creations.

About Rachel Cheung
A ceramic artist and art educator, Rachel Cheung is currently the programme coordinator and lecturer of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme, co-presented by Hong Kong Art School and RMIT University, Melbourne. She is also the founder of Unit Gallery. She initiated and curated "On Earth Lai Chi Wo Art Project" and "On Earth Ceramics Festival" in 2019. She published the research "New Horizons of Local Ceramic Art in Hong Kong" in 2018.
Rachel possesses expertise in ceramics and glass art. She was the winner of the Prize of Excellence at the Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition 2001. She was also invited to take part in the Fukutake House Project of the Setouchi Triennale in Japan in 2016. Her works have been widely collected by museums, including Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum.
